Zeitungen

A new function, the calendar view, is available for the digitised newspapers. With this, all the daily newspapers of a specific date included in the digital collections can be called up parallely. This function is available for the total holdings as well as regional holdings (i.e. Bonn, Bergisches Land etc.). The calendar view presents an alphabetical list of all offered newspapers within the collection.

Alternatively, you still have the possibility of the systematic access.

Bonn University and State Library holds an extensive holding on historic Rhenisch newspapers, which had been acquired as the library’s deposit copy since 1824. Until 1945 the catchment area (compulsory field was the whole Rhineland - so the region from Lower Rhine to Saarland) was considerably larger than today. Due to this, the number of handed in titles was considerable. In the 1990s nearly 100 newspaper titles were secured on film with the financial support of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia to permanently save and store the information as well as to protect the volumes endangered by paper deterioration from further wear and tear due to continuing use. Since 2009 historic Rhenisch newspapers are being digitised from microfilm in close coordination and cooperation with and by service providers. First, mainly newspapers from Bonn and the Rhine – Sieg district were digitised and later from the region Coblenz – Eifel – Ahr. In 2012 newspapers have been scanned and published online primarily focusing on the region “Bergisches Land”, in 2013 from the region Aachen as well as further titles from the administrative district of Coblenz, 2014 from the Cologne region, Düsseldorf, Lower Rhine region and the region of Oberkassel/ Siebengebirge. We are currently completing our offer continuously and will digitise further titles until 1945. In future the focus will be on the cooperation with Rhenisch archives with whose help we will extend our offer continuously.

For copyright reasons year 1945 has been chosen as a temporal border for now.

In order to round the digital offering off or close gaps in terms of content, newspaper loans of other institutes and organizations (i.e. city archive Bonn, city archive Bergisch Gladbach etc.) were digitised and digital copies from other libraries were included via Links.

A notification indicates the still existing gaps within a newspaper. Please note that the stated publication periods are consistent with the printed editions. We currently do not have the possibility to display the publication periods of the digital copies.
